About
La Konfederisto is an online multilingual magazine aimed at Europeans who favour an alternative to our current options for the European Union. It strives to present another Europeanism which is based on reform of the present system in a way which is genuinely European and democratic.
Background
La Konfederisto was created and developed by David Tait in 2021, a writer currently residing in Spain.
The idea is to provide a space to democratise political writing about Europe, inviting opinions from all sides of the political spectrum to contribute their thoughts. It also serves to promote a principle of European Confederalism which aims to inspire reformist and democratic feeling across the continent.
The name for the magazine was inspired by the name of the original pro-Esperantist paper La Esperantisto, edited by Esperanto’s creator L. L. Zamenhof.
La Konfederisto is also completely independently run and is not affiliated with any political party, company, or any other organisation.

Objectives
Currently, to be pro-Europeanism often means either a devotion to the European Union as it is or a fervent belief in an American-style federalisation. La Konfederisto seeks to cut a third way between these ideas by allowing writers from all over the continent to develop their own solutions to the issues at hand.
La Konfederisto therefore looks to present a radical reformism for Europe while still avoiding a complete disintegration of what makes us distinct in the world.

Left, Right or Centre?
La Konfederisto is open to opinions from the left, right and centre and does not claim to support either part of the traditional political spectrum. Socialist or conservative, classical liberals and progressives, libertarians and social democrats are all welcome to express their opinions here.
However, support for a European confederation, as opposed to complete federalisation, is a general theme of the magazine. In addition, any anti-democratic or totalitarian thought is utterly rejected.

Features
Here are some of the features which we offer to both readers and writers and the values we aspire to:
Values
Since La Konfederisto is a primarily political magazine, it has some core values associated for its readers and writers:
Democracy
La Konfederisto is a democratic magazine. This means that the values of due process, free and fair elections, separation of powers, and accountable institutions are at the core of its principles. The magazine stands strictly opposed to authoritarian and totalitarian sentiment.
Humanity
Humanity and the universal recognition of human rights is paramount for La Konfederisto. Anti-humanitarian views, such as religious, ethnic or political sectarianism are condemned.
Liberty
Liberty for the individual is a crucial value. Belief in freedom of speech, association and of the right for an individual to realise their own destiny is enshrined in both humanity and democracy.
Nationality
Self-determination and the promotion of free collaboration between peoples is part of Europe's uniqueness in the world. La Konfederisto holds nationality as an important value since it allows us to connect with the rest of humanity. This also plays a part in a confederation of nations working together for a common end, rather than a federation and uniformity of a narrow European patriotism.
Multilingualism
La Konfederisto is a multilingual magazine. The aim of this is to allow any European to read and write in whichever language they speak. This extends to minority and regional languages, and even to Esperanto.
Flexibility
La Konfederisto is an entirely online magazine and therefore allows for a lot of flexibility of media which it can post. In short, we accept any type of writing, and also accept video and photo essays.
Since it is a non-profit magazine, it is entirely free to use and it is likely the majority of articles sent in will be published, offering the writer an opportunity to get published quickly and having a place to display their work and build a portfolio. However, this does also mean that all is done on a voluntary basis.
